Getting to Know Your International Contacts—Part 1

A new report by the United Nations Children's Fund, on the well-being of children in 35 developed nations, turned up some alarming statistics about child poverty. More than one in five American children fall below a relative poverty line, which UNICEF defines as living in a household that earns less than half of the national median (Fisher, 2013).  However, resources for professional growth help relieve some of the suffering.  For instance, providing different programs to reduce children living in unsafe poverty and more likely to live in poverty as grown-ups. 

ODI’s Growth, Poverty and Inequality Programme are a multi-disciplinary team working on one of the core issues of development policy and practice (Lenhardt, 2013).  The objective of this advantage is to develop a European viewpoint on upgrading issues in the international arena, on the basis of knowledge excellence, advance and constructing of common ground between the European research community and policy-makers.

The study based on the ODI development progress workshop was developed over years:  income vs non-income poverty, qualitative vs quantitative, absolute. Development progress tried to define the whats, whos, and hows of the alternative future.  There were a mixed group of individuals with different backgrounds in the sector of the whats, whos, and hows list.  Their mission is to communicate difficult ideas in the simplest way from end to end with the use of visual stimulus.  These actions aren’t picture-perfect; nevertheless they can stimulate their actions when able to see exactly how far away we are from our ideal world (Measuring up the post, 2015).

This organizations main object is to help grantee achievements with their vision to become sustainable, and reach even more children in need.  Also, support of given money to increase a stronger organization that provides critical services to vulnerable children. As well as supporting partners through management assistance, networking opportunities to strengthen services. 

I found issues and trends such as children dropping out of school at an early age, and never being able to see the inside of a classroom.  As a result, of these different programs this may ensure that children will attend school to learn instead of going to work, receiving the childhood they deserve.

Both foundations were established to offer professional help children with and without families to make a difference in their lives.  These foundations promote programs, such as providing healthy well-being programs to educate children and their families in need for help with financial challenges.  Also, make available nutritious programs to provide their family with the right selection of foods to avoid malnutrition.  

"When I Think of Child Development"

The first years of young children are a great deal of developing.  The brain develops to help build a child’s social and emotional skills, as well as supporting language and literacy.  In early childhood, a child’s learn about different things through play.  The children also learn to play and build caring relationships in their lives.  Children spend most of their time playing together and learn how to master difficult project. 

Parents and professionals are a child’s first teacher throughout life.  It is important to exposes a child to age appropriate challenges to encourage development as well as learn from interacting with their peers.  Developmentally appropriate practice is learning deal with helping children to develop and learn effectively in early education.  In fact providing high-quality programs are grounded in the belief that young children, families, and staff grow and learn best in the context of trusting, supportive relationships (Miller, 2008).

"Testing for Intelligence"

 

A holistic approach to child development seeks to simultaneously address the physical, emotional, relational, intellectual, and spiritual aspects of a child’s life. Our Child Development programs incorporate a variety of approaches to help educate and grow children into healthy, sustainable adults ready and eager to serve the Lord (NCM).

When viewing young children holistically they should be assessed. In fact, it is vital that children get involved in daily activities or programs to help improve their developmental skills. Child care centers must create a safe environment where their can learn successfully. Also, parents must be involved in the development of their children. Because assessing a child should begin, at an early age to recognize and make available support if the child has a problem.

Mexican and U.S. schools are a world apart from assessing school-age children. Schools in Mexico allow only superficial similarities to U.S. schools. The Mexican government has control over the schools and has different beliefs about education. Mexico has a state owned education system.

Some children are difficult to assess accurately because of their different stages or cultural background. I believe that an assessment of a child should be given in a familiar setting, to meet the child’s individual needs for evaluation and possible interventions. A child's temperament and affective state can influence cognitive ability, Vygotsky stated that "emotions and intellect are unified in a dynamic and meaningful system," and "emotions serve as the language of the young child, where verbal skills are lacking." (Grieve, 1992).

Hunger: Consequences of Stress on Children's Development

Poverty is the main cause of hunger, and hunger is a cause of poverty.  Some families struggle trying to feed their family.  Hunger can hinder a child’s ability to learn in school.  Hunger also can contribute to health issues and put children at risk of experiencing poverty. 

There’s a young teenage girl attending high school and had to deal with a pregnancy.   To make things worse, she lived in a household with one parent, therefore, made it harder to live.  She suffered from hunger a lot of school days because her mother could not afford to take of herself and two children not excluding the teenager.  When people go malnourished, they lose brain functionality and the mental resources to be a productive asset in society or earn money.  The young girl had to apply for government assist in order to eat and deliver a healthy baby.  Despite years of progress against hunger, in 2010, it is estimated that 925 million people suffer from hunger.

In Asia and the Pacific, 28 percent of the people border on starvation, experiencing the gnawing pain of perpetual hunger. In the Near East, one in ten people are underfed.  However, through groups and assisted provided today that percent has improved growth of children.  Good nutrition contributes to children and women growth as they develop.
